The Juvenile Detention and Shelter Care Facility houses youth offenders and provides residential programming. The Detention Unit has the capacity for 32 detention beds, which includes a 30-day extended detention program. Detention is an essential resource for holding youth offenders accountable for their actions and providing public safety. Youth are received in the Detention Unit from law enforcement agencies or by court order. The Shelter Unit has the capacity to house up to 16 youth.
The Shelter operates a residential treatment program for youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system, as well as a short-term residential program for youth who are placed through the Department of Human Services or the Douglas County Mental Health Division.
